Earl F. Scheckelhoff
OTTAWA – Earl F. Scheckelhoff, 93, of Ottawa, passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at The Meadows of Ottawa. He was born December 27, 1929, in New Cleveland to the late Rudolph and Catherine (Inkrott) Scheckelhoff. On May 7, 1955, he married Regina Westrick, who survives in Ottawa.
Other survivors include four children: Ronald (MaryAnne) Scheckelhoff of Cary, NC, Steve (Colleen) Scheckelhoff, Lori (Nick) Rosselit and Lynn (Kevin) Wischmeyer, all of Ottawa; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two siblings: Wilma Radabaugh and Roy Scheckelhoff both of Ottawa; a sister-in-law, Mary Scheckelhoff of Ottawa; and a brother-in-law, Raymond (Kathy) Westrick of Ayersville.
He was also preceded in death by five siblings: Jeannette (Tom) Schroeder, Alice (Clark) Herring, James (Mary Lou) Scheckelhoff, Herb Scheckelhoff, and Marilyn (Delbert) Westrick; two brothers-in-law: Charles Radabaugh and Vincent (Joan) Westrick; and a sister-in-law, Erma Scheckelhoff.
Earl was the very first hourly employee at Sylvania/Philips, Ottawa, working from 1948-1991 and serving as president of the Quarter Century Club. He helped develop the first TV tube that came from the plant. Earl worked as an electrical journeyman. He was a realtor, and business owner including multiple laundromats, car washes, a furniture store, multiple rentals, and a bubblegum machine service. He enjoyed remodeling and flipping houses. Earl was a U.S. Army veteran, who served during the Korean War as a Sergeant and Medic. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, where he served as Eucharistic minister, usher and opened for Eucharistic adoration for many years. He was also a member of the Ottawa American Legion, VFW, Ottawa Eagles, and Knights of Columbus. Earl had many adventures as a pilot. He enjoyed nature, raising sheep, golfing, gardening, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 – 10 a.m. on Saturday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
