(Wilson) Kagy
October 28, 1920 – February 14, 2016
OTTAWA - Eleanor Marie Kagy (Wilson), originally of Ottawa passed away February 14, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living of Findlay. She was 95 years old. Eleanor was born October 28, 1920 to the late Charles B. and Margaret (Vandemark) Wilson. She was the salutatorian of the Ottawa Public School Class of 1938, and went on to graduate from Fort Wayne Business College with a degree in bookkeeping. Eleanor married the late Leonard E. Kagy on June 18, 1943, and they remained happily wed until his death in 1967. She kept books for Wilson Transportation Service, Wilson Truck Sales & Leasing, & Stelzer Transportation, all of which she was a part owner. When Lyon's Trucking purchased Wilson Transportation, she was flown by private jet to testify in front of the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington DC. In 2000, Eleanor was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award by the American Truck Historical Society for her contributions to the development of Trucking Industry. Eleanor also served on the Putnam County ADAMS Board, and was a long time tutor at the Ottawa Public School. Eleanor retired from Bellman (Steffen) Ford of Ottawa in 1988.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her brother, Charles D. Wilson; and a daughter, Mary Margaret (Earl) Peters. She is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Edwin) Lobdell of Findlay and Vande (Michael) Slonecker of Owensboro, Kentucky; six grandchildren, William (Rhonda) Peters & James Peters of Tiffin, Travis (Jennifer) Slonecker & Timothy (Adrienne) Slonecker of Louisville, Kentucky, Miranda Lobdell of Findlay, and Micah Lobdell of Greenfield, Indiana; as well as five great-grandchildren.
Eleanor and Leonard were long-time members of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Ottawa and were deeply involved in helping the church grow in its early years.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa with Pastor Lynda Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow at Harman Cemetery, Gilboa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Resource Center, Trinity United Methodist Church, or the Food Bank.
