Ellen M. Niemeyer

KALIDA – Ellen M. Niemeyer, 73, of Kalida, passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Meadows of Kalida.  She was born February 15, 1950, in Lima to the late Clete and Freda (Horstman) Fortman.  On November 13, 1971, she married Paul Niemeyer, who survives in Kalida.

Ellen is also survived by three children:  Brad (Nicole) Niemeyer of Kalida, Ryan (Janie) Niemeyer of Cincinnati, and Darrin Niemeyer of Fort Mitchell, KY.; eight grandchildren: Owen, Grace, Miles, Dean and Jolene Niemeyer, Rob, Mary and Rex Shaffer; siblings: Roger (Karen) Fortman of Dayton, Mark (Sharon) Fortman, Carol (Dan) Ellerbrock, Carl (Becky) Fortman, Glen (Lynda) Fortman and Deb (Patrick) Eickholt, all of Kalida; and a sister-in-law: Alice Fortman of Dayton.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Fortman.

Ellen retired from Kalida Local School where she was the cafeteria cashier and a bus driver.  She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, and its altar rosary society.  Ellen loved to crochet and do puzzles.  She also enjoyed riding her bike and walking around town with Paul.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Nathan Bockrath officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 8 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with a scripture service beginning at 1:45 p.m.
