Ellin J. Pierman

OTTAWA - Ellin J. (Frey) Pierman died October 28, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born on August 18, 1929 to the late Robert F. and Orchid K. Frey and grew up in Ottawa, graduating from Ottawa Public High School in 1947.

On June 6, 1947 she married James H. Pierman. They shared nearly 70 years until his death in October, 2016. Together, they raised three daughters who survive: Carol J. (Sharon O'Dair) Pierman of Richmond, California; Shelley K. (Steven Pickering) Pierman of La Center, Washington; and Jamie A. Pierman of Ottawa.

Also surviving are Ellin's sister and brother-in-law Karin and James Hermiller of Fishers, Indiana, as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Ellin was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert J. (Gladys) Frey Jr., Hugh (Evelyn) Frey and Kirk (Edith) Frey.

Ellin and Jim spent nearly all of their married years together on the family farm, where she enjoyed gardening, birdwatching and making a warm and welcoming home for friends and family. She was a teacher's aide in the Pandora-Gilboa School system and volunteered for years while her daughters attended school there.

A charter member of the Friends of the Putnam County District Library, Ellin also served on the Library's Board of Trustees and volunteered at numerous Library fundraisers and special events. The joy of reading was a central part of Ellin's life and she instilled that joy in her family.

A member of the Ottawa Presbyterian Church for her entire life, Ellin served the church as an Elder, Trustee, Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and Ottawa Presbyterian Women, and, with her dear friend Luella Mae Rosebrook, co-directed the church's Junior Choir.

Ellin was a longtime member of the Ottawa Study Club. She enjoyed  bridge club, music, the theater, traveling, and most especially being surrounded by her family and friends.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date.
