Elmer L. Koenig
North Creek – Elmer L. Koenig, 87, of North Creek died at 1:08 a.m. Thursday March 29, 2012 at The Meadows of Ottawa-Glandorf. He was born February 15, 1925 in Liberty Township, Putnam County to the late Jacob and Veronica (Steffan) Koenig. On May 29, 1947 he married Ilda Fern Varner and she survives in North Creek.
Also surviving are 4 children: David (Diana) Koenig of Continental, Glen (Joan) Koenig of Miller City, Sandra (Eugene) Hasselschwert of New Bavaria and Cliff Koenig of Miller City; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild; 6 brothers: Urban "Dobin", Robert, Clarence "Cap", Sylvester "Sam", Eugene and Homer Koenig; 6 sisters: Bertha Burkhart, Theresia Koenig, Ruth Manle, Mildred Schreiber, Marie Ruhe and Dorothy Maas.
Elmer retired after 38 years from General Motors, Defiance and was also a farmer. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, St. Joseph's Holy Name Society, North Creek and the UAW Local 211. Elmer enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Fr. Stephen Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Creek. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a Parish Rosary at 2 p.m.
