Elmer E. Korte

KALIDA - Elmer E. Korte, 92, of Kalida, passed away at 6:29 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at his residence surrounded by family.  He was born February 12, 1930 in Cloverdale to the late Edward and Margaret (Erhart) Korte. On August 29, 1953, he married Helen L. Brickner and she preceded him in death on December 28, 2012.

Survivors include five children: Jan (Gary) Schroeder of Kalida, Joyce (Michael) Selhorst of Columbus Grove, Julie (David) Horstman of Kalida, William (Sonia) Korte of Defiance and Jeff (Ann) Korte of Kalida; 16 grandchildren: Shelly Horstman, Tracy (Matt) Lucke, Elizabeth (Larry) Rover, Brad (Carrie) Schroeder, Jackie (Jeff) Hermiller, Lauren (Joel) Nussbaum, Logan (Lauren) Selhorst, Lindsey (Aaron) Siefker, Jordan (Julianne) Horstman, Jason Horstman, Audrie Ann (Isaiah) Hammersmith, Gavan William Korte, Derek Korte, Ryan (Christina Berger) Korte, Marissa Ankney and Andrea Ankney; 18 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and a sister-in-law, Leona Korte.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Henry (Dorothy) Korte, Ray (Marie) Korte and Chuck Korte; and five sisters: Luella (Bill) Cooper, Mary (Harold) Bockrath, Lucy (Jack) Schimmoeller, Laura (Len) Unverferth and Betty Lou (Amos) Siefker.

Elmer retired from Dana Corporation, Lima.  He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, Kalida Fish and Game, Kalida Knights of Columbus, and loved to sing with Country Gentleman.  Elmer enjoyed working on his lawnmowers and training race horses. The constant smile. The giggle. The laugh. The zerberts. The shots. And most of all, the amazing stories! (Believable or not, they kept everyone else captivated, smiling and laughing). He was such a great man who is going to be with his beautiful bride, friends and family.  He will be missed so much. We have been incredibly fortunate to have been able to be around such a fascinating person to give us such great memories!  Godspeed Elmo!

Funeral mass will begin at  10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2022 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m.
