Emily Scarberry

DEFIANCE – Emily Scarberry, 67, of Defiance (formerly of Ottawa), passed away at 5:40 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2026, at her residence. She was born July 18, 1959, in Traverse City, MI to the late Frank and Lucy (Benitez) Villerreal. On December 31, 1975, she married Paul Scarberry, who preceded her in death on April 26, 2021.

Emily is survived by four children: Nakia Carrillo of Cairo, Tabatha (Mark) Turner of Ottawa, Jeremy (Brandy Cochran) Scarberry of Lima and R.J. Hill of Shawnee; fourteen grandchildren: Darla (Forrest) Bowman, Jordan Cochran, Angelica Carrillo, Cortney (Luke) Schroeder, Tony (Sydney) Carrillo, Brittani (Caleb) Verhoff, Jeremy Scarberry, Jasper Scarberry, Joseph Scarberry, Elijah Turner, Regan Hill, Blayne Hill, Kennedy Hill and Emersyn Hill; ten great-grandchildren with one more on the way; nine brothers and sisters; and her special friend, Shawn Oglesbee.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Damian Carrillo; and eight brothers and sisters.

Emily was a retired caregiver who lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, boating and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will begin at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
