Eugene S. "Dude" Schroeder
OTTAWA – Eugene S. "Dude" Schroeder, 82, of Ottawa, died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at his residence. He was born April 24, 1931, to the late Urban and Esther (Ellerbrock) Schroeder. On October 23, 1957, he married Patricia A. Verhoff. She died January 30, 2012.
Surviving are five children: Rose (Steve) Krietemeyer of Ft. Jennings, Gordon (Debra) Schroeder of New Bavaria, Karen (Kent) Niese of Miller City, Kurt Schroeder of Ottawa and Nate (Rachel) Schroeder of Pemberville; thirteen grandchildren: Eric (Maria) Krietemeyer, Megan Krietemeyer, Marissa Krietemeyer, Matthew Huntsman, Andrew Huntsman, Bradley (Amanda) Schroeder, Mark Schroeder, Nicole Schroeder, Jared Niese, Natasha Niese, Felicia Schroeder, Abigail Schroeder and Alivia Schroeder; three great-grandchildren, Gage, Sophie and Haley; four sisters: Mildred Schulte of Continental, Clara Cavanaugh of Ottawa, Irene Conklin of Toledo and Eileen Niese of Leipsic; and three brothers: John Schroeder of Ottawa, Carl Schroeder of FL and Robert Schroeder of Leipsic.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Schroeder and Daniel Schroeder; and a sister, Dorothy Fruchey.
Gene retired as a supervisor for quality control after over 35 years with SCM Allied Egry in Leipsic. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and a lifetime member of the Ottawa Eagles. He was a US Army Veteran who enjoyed pitching horseshoes, The Ohio State Buckeyes and Detroit Tigers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will be held at 7:50 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
