Eugene B. Newland
Lakeview - Eugene B. Newland, 91, of Lakeview, formerly of Ottawa died 12:43 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born January 25, 1922 in Bluffton to the late Warner and Rose (Luginbuhl) Newland. On August 4, 1951, he married Edna E. Pacey who survives in Lakeview.
He is also survived by 2 children: Sandra Grindley and Cynthia (Larry) Unterbrink both of Indian Lake; 4 grandchildren: Tom Chamberlin, Misti Bailey, Nick (Kristy) Unterbrink and Neil (Amanda) Unterbrink; 5 great-grandchildren and a brother: Richard Newland of Capastrona, California. Eugene is preceded in death by a son-in-law: Rodger Grindley and a sister: Louise Auckerman.
Eugene was self-employed with Newland General Hauling. He was a member of Indian Lake Church of the Nazarene. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving on USS Washington, where he earned 11 battle stars and 3 ribbons. He had also sung in the All Navy Choir. He was a member of Indian Lake's Moose Lodge #1533; Ottawa's VFW; Ottawa's Masonic Lodge #325, where was a past master. He was a retired charter boat captain on Lake Erie.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Burial will follow in Harman Cemetery, Gilboa, with military graveside by Ottawa's VFW. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Love Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to the charity of donor's choice.
