Eugene "Gene" Scherer

GROVER HILL – Eugene "Gene" Scherer, 89, of Grover Hill, Ohio, died at 4:28 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Vancrest of Holgate. Gene was born August 13, 1934, in Grover Hill to the late Henry and Nellie (Linnabary) Scherer.

Gene is survived by his brother, Robert (Ruth) Scherer of Continental; and five nieces and nephews: Howard L. Rayle, Bobbi (Paul) Matson, Diana (Bill) Vocke, Kathy (Dave) Nemire and Greg (Denise) Scherer. He is also survived by many great and great-great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Rayle.

Gene was a lifelong farmer and worked at GTE Sylvania. He loved his family farm and the many pets he cared for over the years, especially his cats. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church, Grover Hill, where he served with the food pantry.

A graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Mt. Zion Cemetery, 5326 Co Rd 151, Paulding.  Arrangements are under the direction of HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood.
