Eugene "Gene" Schimmoeller
OTTOVILLE - Eugene "Gene" Schimmoeller, 90, of Ottoville, died 1:10 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the Meadows of Kalida. He was born August 4, 1932, in Ottoville to the late Edmund and Martha (Turnwald) Schimmoeller. On September 4, 1954, he married Helen Reindl, who preceded him in death on March 13, 2019.
Survivors include two sons: Dale (Lisa) Schimmoeller of Miller City and Darren (Julie) Schimmoeller of Ottoville; six grandchildren: Derek (Rebecca) Schimmoeller, Luke (Amy) Schimmoeller, Elizabeth (Ross) Kaufman, Jacob (fiancée Kylie White) Schimmoeller, Andy Schimmoeller and Hannah Schimmoeller; one great-grandson, Jameison Schimmoeller; one brother, Roger (Catty) Schimmoeller of Ottoville; and two sisters: Mary Lou Stechschulte of Columbus Grove and Ruth Lucke of Fort Jennings.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur (Delores) Schimmoeller; one sister, Doris Ann (Hank) Honigfort; and a brother-in-law, Dave Stechschulte.
Gene was a lifelong resident of Ottoville where he farmed a sesquicentennial farm and owned and operated Schimmoeller Ditching. He was a proud member of the Ottoville Knights of Columbus, Ottoville Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and several of the church's choirs. Gene was an avid golfer and in his younger days, played semi-pro baseball and fast-pitch softball. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, dance and play piano.
He was a past member of the Ottoville Lions Club, Ottoville School Board, the Brass Notes, Tony's Band of Ottoville, Delphos Country Club, Ohio Land Improvement Contractors Association Board, Ottoville St. Mary's Cemetery Board and Lima Federation of Musicians. His presence at local sporting events will be missed.
A funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Fr. George Mahas officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, where there will be a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. and one hour prior to mass on Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ottoville Immaculate Conception Church or Putnam County Homecare and Hospice.
