Evalena Mary Fitzwater
Oakwood - Evalena Mary Fitzwater, 91, passed away at the Meadows of Kalida at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015, with family at her side.   She was born May 14, 1923 in Oakwood to the late George F. and Faye (Leatherman) Sharp.   She married Walter A. Fitzwater on June 28, 1943 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on November 5, 1994.
Evalena was a member of the Dupont Church of the Brethren where she served many positions in the church including pianist, chorister and secretary.  She also sang in a duet.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the N-Joy Club.  Evalena worked as an LPN for over 40 years at Paulding Hospital, Dr. Wards  in Oakwood and Paradise Oaks, providing care and comfort to her patients was her passion.
She is survived by her children: Philip (Jo Ann) Fitzwater of Continental, Linda (Michael) Shaffer of Defiance and Jo Anna (Nick) Doster of Continental; 8 grandchildren: Lynn (Norma) Fitzwater, Jeff (Monica) Fitzwater, Eric (Tina) Fitzwater, Shane (Michelle) Fitzwater, Darren (Deb) Shaffer, Leslee Bird, Chad (Kelly) Doster and Nikole (Mark) Brecht; 23 great-grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild.  She is also survived by 2 sisters: Kathryn Deatrick of Cecil and LuAnn Sharp of Plainfield, Indiana.  She is preceded in death by 3 brothers: Franklin, Ned and Harry Sharp.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at Dupont Church of the Brethren, Dupont, with Doug Price officiating.   Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental and one hour prior to service on Monday at the church.
