FORT JENNINGS – Evelyn M. (Hoersten) Martin, 69, of Fort Jennings, passed away at 5:37 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at OSU James Cancer Center, Columbus. She was born December 28, 1953 in Lima to the late Arthur and Thelma (Pohlman) Hoersten. On November 27, 1976 she married Gerald N. Martin, who preceded her in death on July 3, 2019.
Evelyn is survived by three children: Michelle (Ken) Porr of Cedarville, Louise (Ron) Crawford of Pleasant Lake, IN., and Jeffrey (Courtnie) Martin of Canal Winchester; five grandchildren: Mason and Zachary Crawford, Kaleb, Lauren, and Brandon Porr; one step-grandchild: Alexis Crawford; siblings: Tom (Lisa) Hoersten of Oregon, Ken (JoAnn) Hoersten of Fremont, MI., Jane Wittler of Fort Jennings; and a sister-in-law: Jane Schimmoeller of Fort Jennings.
She is also preceded in death by a grandson, Sage Porr; a sister, Irene (Chuck) Calvelage; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Wittler.
Evelyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings. She worked as a seamstress at Drapery Stitch, Delphos and she was also a columnist for the Putnam County Sentinel and the Delphos Herald. Evelyn loved genealogy, playing Scrabble, doing crafts, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings with Fr. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township and again on Wednesday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Council on Aging or Putnam County Cancer Assistance Program.
