Frank Johnson Jr.

Oakwood – Frank Johnson Jr., 69, of Oak Hill, WV, died 1:09 a.m. Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Defiance Mercy Hospital. He was born February 20, 1947 in Pike County, Kentucky to the late Frank and Delphia (Vanhoose) Johnson Sr. In 1984 he married Alice Gibson who died February 17, 2016.

He survived by his step-daughter: Donna Mullins of Greensboro, NC; five siblings: Venita (Don) Stewart of Kentucky, Burma Coleman and Glendean Hamm both of Oakwood, Richard (Linda) Johnson of Cloverdale, Helen (Steve) Scott of Oakwood; a special cousin: Arthur (Dwanna) Gibson of West Virginia; and four step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a step-son: Dennis Gibson Jr.; five siblings: Charles Johnson, Billy Johnson, Allene Martin, Ruby Smallwood, and Mary Damron.

Frank was a retired Coal miner, and was a member of the United Mine Workers Assoc. Local #7086. He enjoyed gardening and had a large garden throughout the summer. He loved spending time with his family especially with his nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood, with Pastor James Fry officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home as well as an hour prior to service.
