Fred W. Verhoff
CONTINENTAL – Fred W. Verhoff, 97, of Continental died Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Meadows of Ottawa. He was born January 20, 1926 in Cuba to the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Ellerbrock) Verhoff. On August 28, 1951, he married Alvera D. Lehman. She died December 28, 2017.
Survivors include five children: Eugene (Tammy) Verhoff of Continental, Doris (Michael) Tobe of New Cleveland, Patrick (Valerie) Verhoff of Miller City, Gregory (Cathy) Verhoff and Oran (Kelly) Verhoff both of Continental; daughter-in-law Jacki Verhoff of Continental; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren with one on the way.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Verhoff; a son, Clarence Verhoff; granddaughter, Stephanie Verhoff; daughter-in-law, Nancy Verhoff; 7 siblings: Cletus (Rose) Verhoff, Loretta (Gibb) Siebeneck, Amos (Helen) Verhoff, Lucille (John) Kleman, Eleanor (Norbert) Siebeneck, Louise (Abbie) Llewellyn and Norbert (Juanita) Verhoff.
Fred served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Continental American Legion for 76 years, Ottawa V.F.W, Miller City Sportsman Club, and National Farmers Organization. Fred was a former member of Miller City volunteer fire department, Forty and Eight veterans organization and St. Isadore Holy Name Society. He served as Greensburg Township trustee for 28 years, also serving as past Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary. Fred loved his happy hour at the table knowledge.
Funeral mass will begin 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Continental with Fr. Nathan Bockrath officiating. Burial will follow in St. Isidore Cemetery, Cuba. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, with a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Visitation will also be held Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.
