Frederick Leo "Fred" Heitmeyer

KALIDA – Frederick Leo "Fred" Heitmeyer, 68, of Kalida, passed away at 2:55 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born July 15, 1955, in Lima to the late Leo and Alice (Maas) Heitmeyer. On September 17, 1977, he married Mary E. Reindel, who survives in Kalida.

He is also survived by three children: Erik (Sara) Heitmeyer of Lima, Jordan (Amy) Heitmeyer and Tyler (Beth) Heitmeyer, both of Kalida; eight grandchildren: Kaylee, Collin, Karlie, Kiersten, Jonah, Connor, Brady and Aubrey; and six siblings: Mary Kelsey of Jacksonville, FL, Bill (Rosie) Heitmeyer, Dave (Pam) Heitmeyer, both of Ottoville, Pat (Mike) Grothause of Fort Jennings, Rick (Diana) Heitmeyer of Toledo and Sue (Phil) Fuerst of Kalida.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ken Kelsey.

Fred retired from GM Powertrain, Defiance. He also worked in construction for 15 years. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and its Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, Kalida and Ottawa Eagles. Fred enjoyed being outside, especially taking golf cart rides, camping at Huggy Bear Campground and wintering in Florida with his family. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 9 to 10 on Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
