Gabriel R. Gehr

QUEEN CREEK, AZ – Gabriel R. "Gabe" Gehr, 29, of Queen Creek, AZ and formerly of Delphos died Thursday, February 24, 2022.  He was born September 18, 1992 in Lima to Walter "Wally" and Tami (Shively) Gehr, who along with his step-mother, Janet Gehr all survive in Delphos.

Also surviving are his brothers:  Guy Gehr and Garrett (Ashley) Gehr, both of Delphos; 2 nieces:  Maddisyn Stechschulte and Lucille Gehr; a nephew: Greyson Gehr; his girlfriend:  Marika Losasso; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Gabe is preceded in death by maternal grandparents:  Paul and Patricia Shively and paternal grandparents:  Robert and Joan Gehr, Sr.

Gabe was a 2011 graduate of Delphos Jefferson where he participated in football.  He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. During his time in the military, he served in Afghanistan and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.  In 2013, he was sustained career ending injuries that lead him to the Wounded Warrior Battalion West at Camp Pendleton.  There he participated in cycling, wheelchair basketball, volleyball and rowing; but he excelled in swimming.  He participated in the Department of Defense Warrior Games winning 3 gold medals and a silver medal in swimming.  Gabe also qualified for the Paralympics, where he broke 10 American Paralympic swimming records.

Gabe graduated from San Diego State University in the Spring of 2021 with a Bachelor's in elementary education.  He was currently a substitute teacher with the Queen Creek Unified School District, Queen Creek, AZ.  He aspired to get his master's in education from Arizona State University.

The funeral service for Gabe will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township with Pastor Denny Coates officiating.  Burial will follow in Spencerville Cemetery, Spencerville, OH.  Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, all at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tami Gehr, to be used for the funeral costs as well as Marine Corp charities that were important to Gabe.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.lovefuneralhome.com.
