Gary G. Turnwald
OTTOVILLE - In loving memory of a life deeply rooted in the land, we announce with heavy hearts the passing of a cherished man. He was born and raised on the same farm where he raised his own family and peacefully passed away. Gary's life was a testament to the bond between a person and their home.
Gary G. Turnwald "Gipper" passed away surrounded by his loving family, on October 8, following a courageous and admirable four-plus-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born at home on the family farm on April 29, 1951, to the late Ralph and Margaret (Rayman) Turnwald. On October 18, 1980, he married Cathy Ann Kloeppel of Ottoville. Gary is survived by his children: Jared (Pam) Turnwald of Worthington, Sarah (Steve) Maenle of Ottoville, Bradly (Krystal) Turnwald of Dublin, and Aaron (Carrie) Turnwald of Cloverdale.
Gary treasured his 11 grandchildren: Laiken and Beckett Turnwald; Leah, Aubrey, Everly, Isaac, and Levi Garyt Maenle; Madison and Cameron Turnwald; and Zander and Rowan Turnwald.
He was a lifelong farmer and held employment over the years at M&W Trailer, J.L. Wannemacher's, and Allen Correctional Institute. He was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Parish and the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his love for family, farming, tinkering in the shop, and working on his 1929 Ford Model A, he found joy in life's simple pleasures, including moments spent with friends while having a drink or two.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jerome, Clarence, and Orville; father and mother-in-law, Howard and Rita (Geise) Kloeppel; and brother-in-law, John Nussbaum. He is survived by his sister, Dollie Nussbaum of Ottoville; sister-in-law, Phyllis Turnwald of Delphos; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary's cherished life began and ended on the farm where he was "born on the kitchen table" for the doctor fee of $40 and two butchered chickens. He treasured his final days on the homestead, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, with Very Reverend George Mahas and Father John Stites officiating.
