Obituary

Gary D. “Fuzz” Gudakunst

OTTOVILLE – Gary D. “Fuzz” Gudakunst, 74, of Ottoville, passed away at 6:54 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2026, at his residence. He was born October 2, 1952, in Lima to the late Frank and Catherine (Bendele) Gudakunst.

Survivors include three children: Jamie (Jeff) Averesch, Anna (Greg Kortokrax) Calvelage, both of Ottoville and Leslie (Brad) Klima of Ft. Jennings; seven grandchildren: Jocelyn Averesch, Jayda Averesch, Maddix Calvelage, Nataly Calvelage, Charlie Calvelage, Jaxson Klima and Preston Klima; two sisters: Susan Grime of Van Wert and Jan Gudakunst of Ottoville; a sister-in-law, Renee Gudakunst; several nieces and nephews; and his girlfriend of 23 years, Paula Dinkins.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Gudakunst.

Gary retired from General Motors, Defiance. He enjoyed spending time with his dear friends at the Ottoville VFW and Ft. Jennings American Legion. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, tinkering in his shop with treasures he would find, and cruising on his golf cart with his family. Gary was a classic car enthusiast with his own collection. He had a passion for music and played drums in a few local bands over the years, the latest being Slo-5. Above all, Gary loved being together with his beloved family, his cat, Fuzznuts and his dog, Bell.

Our family is deeply thankful to Putnam County Hospice, as well as all our family members who helped until the end. Gary wouldn’t have been able to live out his last months at home without all of you.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at Ottoville VFW Post 3740. Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.

Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Hospice.
