George J. Borchers

HINESVILLE, GA - George J Borchers, 82 of Hinesville, GA (formerly of Ottawa) passed away at 1:08a.m. on Friday, September 1 2023, at his residence.

He was born August 14, 1941, in Lima to the late George and Odelia (Kohls) Borchers.  On May 4, 1974, he married Nancy Stewart who preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Georgina Lane (Andrew Burwell) of Hinesville, GA; grandchildren: Morgan Lane (Michael Hogsett) of Alvada, Madison (Christian) Gomes of Hinesville, and Katherine (Fig) Lane of Hinesville; great-grandchild: Theodore Hogsett; siblings: John Borchers, Mary (Don) Yant, Katie (Michael) Puglise.

He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Josie Borchers, and a brother-in-law, Thomas Stewart.

George served in Korea in the US Army and retired from EJ Meyers & Son Construction Co. A lifelong mechanic, he enjoyed working on cars in his shop and tinkering with anything he thought he could salvage or repurpose. He donated countless hours as a member and past commander of VFW 9142 and spent almost as many more swapping stories and being ornery sitting in the canteen. His happy place was at Lake Erie with his "Wayne Street Gang", fishing for Walleye during the day and playing cards at night.

Funeral Service will begin Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with Deacon Jeff Compton officiating.  Burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Ottawa with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion, Amvets and DAV.  Visitation will be Friday, September 22 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Putnam County Cancer Assistance Program.
