GERTRUDE LOUISE CRAWFORD
Leipsic - Gertrude Louise Crawford, 92, of Leipsic, died at 4:05 AM Saturday, August 25, 2012 at The Meadows of Leipsic. She was born on January 22, 1920 near Miller City to the late Bernard and Loretta (Stritt) Barlage. She married Vincent Leo Peck on August 24, 1940 who died November 2, 1951. She married Paul Bryan Crawford on September 23, 1953 and he died September 17, 1991. Surviving are 6 children:
Virginia Louise Peck (John) Dixon of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, Kathleen Mary Peck Dykstra of Spring Creek, NV, Lee Roy Peck of Leipsic, Thomas Mark (Marci) Crawford of Salt Lake City, UT, Allen Jay Crawford of Leipsic and Diana Sue Crawford (Charles) Trautwein of Arcadia, OH; 2 daughters-in-law: Sharon Peck and Natalie (Mike) Okuley both of Leipsic; a sister: Agnes Nienberg of Miller City; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 sons: James Vincent Peck, Ronald Joseph Peck and Paul Bryan Crawford, Jr.; a sister: Mary Strausbaugh; 3 brothers: Leo, Oscar and Albert (Ham) Barlage and a son-in-law: Michael Dykstra.
Gertrude was a homemaker and member of St.Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic. She was a member of the church choir, Altar Rosary Society, Catholic Ladies of Columbia and Leipsic American Legion Auxiliary. She assisted in the preparation of event meals with Dorothy Niese and received the Outstanding Senior Award for Volunteerism presented by the Putnam County Council on Aging. She kept busy during her long life with gardening, canning, bird watching and hand crafting quilts and afghans. Many people have enjoyed sharing her beautiful creations. She also enjoyed playing cards and fishing expeditions to Lake Erie and even chased tuna on the Pacific Coast.
A Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will be performed on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 3 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic, with Fr. George Wenzinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 30 from 6 to 8 PM at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic and again in the Church vestibule at 2 PM prior to the Mass on Friday. There will be an Altar Rosary and CLC Rosary at 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church or School, or to the charity of your choice.
