FORT JENNINGS – Ghnelda J. Schimmoeller, 92, of Fort Jennings, passed away at 6:45 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2025, at The Meadows of Kalida. She was born February 19, 1933 in Leipsic to the late Henry and Luella (Ricker) Alt. On November 9, 1952, she married Cleo J. "Click" Schimmoeller. He died October 9, 1998.
Survivors include three daughters: Patricia (Mike Keeney) Harter of Marion, Nancy (Joe) Will of Fort Jennings and Kimberly (Gary) Fortman of Kalida; seven grandchildren: Jason (Nikki) Will, Jeremy (Bethany) Will, Jacquelyn (Brian) Huckereide, Stacey Bice, Brett Harter, Tristine (Nick) Bockrath and Dustin (Kelsey) Fortman; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth (Sandy) Alt of Michigan; sisters in-law: Carolyn Alt of Leipsic, Annette Hilvers of Ottoville, Ethel Recker of Ottoville, Margaret Von Sossan of Fort Jennings, Sister Jane Schimmoeller of Tiffin, Catherine (Roger) Schimmoeller of Ottoville; and a brother-in-law, Paul Schimmoeller of Kalida.
She was also preceded in death by siblings: Viola (Robert) Topp, Robert Alt, John (JoLou) Alt, Bill (Dorothy) Alt, Bernard (Dorothy) Alt, Richard "Dick" Alt and Daniel Alt; and in-laws: John Hilvers, Kenneth VonSossan and JoAnn Schimmoeller.
Ghnelda was a homemaker, seamstress, florist and entrepreneur. She started two businesses, Flower Fort and Bridal Fortress in Fort Jennings. She enjoyed plants and had a keen eye for decorating. Along with her husband Click, they enjoyed traveling across the beautiful USA. During her travels, she would write poems; one of which was published. Ghnelda was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings and took care of the church flowers for many years and helped with religion classes. She had also been a girl scout leader. Above all else, she was a loving, caring, constant presence in each of her daughter's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's lives and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 19, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings with Fr. Ronald Schock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Twp. and one hour prior to Mass on Friday at the church. A scripture service will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home Thursday.
