Greg G. Hovest
Glandorf- Greg G. Hovest, 81, of Glandorf died 12:31 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, surrounded by his family and his devoted wife of sixty years. He was born February 5, 1934 in Glandorf to the late Ignatius and Mary (Ricker) Hovest. On October 27, 1954, he married Patricia Schroeder who survives in Glandorf.
Greg is also survived by his 6 children: Stephen (Sandy) Hovest of Norwalk, Susan (John) Schlumbohm of Pandora, Allen (Maryellen) Hovest of Lexington, KY, Brian (Rose) Hovest of Tallmadge, Eric (Susie) Hovest of Dublin and Sharon (Dean) Mayhew of Glandorf; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister: Betty Maag of Leipsic and 2 sisters-in-law: Dottie Hovest of Glandorf and Beatrice Hovest of Ottawa. He is preceded in death by 3 brothers: Richard, Donald and Stanley Hovest.
He retired from Tuttle Construction Company and the Village of Glandorf, where he was the superintendent of water department. He also served as village councilman for 8 years. He was a member of Ottawa American Legion Post 63 , VFW Post 9142, and the Ottawa Eagles; Glandorf Fire Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary, Ohio Bricklayers Local 35 & 3 and caretaker of Glandorf Park. He was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, the Men's Choir and caretaker of the clock tower and bells. He was a member of Marv Herzog's polka fan club. Greg was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Greg enjoyed playing cards, taking casino trips, gardening and tinkering with most any machine; and he could fix anything.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Church, Glandorf with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military service by Ottawa's American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, where Glandorf Fire Department will have a service at 7 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa . VFW Service at 7 P.M. and parish rosary will be at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be given to St. John's the Baptist Capital Campaign and Putnam County Cancer Assistance Program.
