Guillermo Paniagua, Sr.

LEIPSIC – Guillermo Paniagua, Sr., 94, of Leipsic, passed away at 9:02 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2023 at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima surrounded by family. He was born November 4, 1928 in Merrill, MI to the late Fidel and Rufina (Guzman) Paniagua.  On October 15, 1960, he married Enedelia Garcia, who survives in Leipsic.

Guillermo is also survived by seven children: Lola Sifuentes, Gloria (Oscar) Pardo, both of Belmore, Guillermo Paniagua, Jr., Rufina (Scott Schmitz) Paniagua, both of Ottawa, Susana (Ernesto) Cruz of Defiance, Elena (Michael) Beaupre of Leipsic and Lucina (David) Brose of Fostoria; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren with two on the way; one great-great-grandchild; and two siblings: Elodia Paniagua of Belmore and Roy Paniagua of Findlay.

He is also preceded in death by a son, Moses Paniagua; and two siblings: Elias and Tomas Paniagua.

Guillermo was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from General Motors, Defiance, where he was a member of the Local UAW 211. He was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic. Guillermo was a former Mayor of Belmore. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Michigan Wolverines. Guillermo loved gardening roses and sunflowers and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. Randy Giesige and Deacon Ben Valdez officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion, VFW, Amvets and DAV. Visitation will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and one hour prior to mass on Tuesday at St. Mary's Parish Life Center, Leipsic.
