Harold J. "Harry" Horstman

KALIDA – Harold J. "Harry" Horstman, 71, of Kalida died 8:15 a.m., Friday, March 24, 2023, at Mercy Health Putnam Medical Center, Glandorf.  He was born October 4, 1951, in Lima to the late Virgil and Clara (Wehri) Horstman.  On January 12, 1974, he married Barbara Schnipke and she survives in Kalida.

Other survivors include three daughters: Alicia (Bryan) Gipson of Pittsburgh, PA, Andrea (Seth) Winkle of Gilbert, AZ, and Ashley (Larry) Peck of Kalida; five grandchildren: Emma and Henry Gipson, Harrison Winkle, and Makenna and Kylie Peck; and nine siblings:  Kenny Horstman of Ottawa, Christina Heckman of Glandorf, Julie (Don) Schroeder of Glandorf, Bill (Patti) Horstman of Kalida, Kathy (Gary) Moening of Glandorf, Dave (Julie) Horstman of Kalida, Melvin (Lois) Horstman of Kalida, Teresa (Greg) Knueve of Kalida and Barb (Dave) Neidert of Kalida.

He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Horstman; a brother, Alvin Horstman; a sister-in-law, Diana Horstman; a brother-in-law, Ken Heckman; and a nephew, Brandon Horstman.

Harry retired after over 30 years with General Motors in Defiance.  After retirement, he helped out at K&L Ready Mix, spent many hours volunteering at the Kalida Four Seasons Park, was a life-long farmer and was well known for Harry's Famous BBQ Chicken.  He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kalida, board member for Kalida Four Seasons Park, Kalida Lion's Club, Kalida Fish and Game Club and the Ottawa Eagles.  Harry loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Nathan Bockrath officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Twp.
