Harold C. McDougle

OTTAWA – Harold C. McDougle, 94, passed away at 8:55 p.m. March 1, 2022 at the Bluffton Hospital.  He was born January 20, 1928 in Palmer Township, Putnam County, Ohio to the late Samuel and Ella (Taylor) McDougle.  On July 19, 1953, he married Eldora Mae Bundy. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2010.

Harold was a graduate of Leipsic High School.  He worked and retired after 32 years from the Lima Ford Motor Company.  He served in the United States Army, was a member of the Leipsic American Legion Post #287, and a 32nd degree member of the Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite and Israel Putnam Masonic Lodge #797, Continental.  He was a life-long member of the Leipsic United Methodist Church.

Harold excelled in athletics at Leipsic High School and remained an avid supporter of all the Viking teams throughout his entire life.  For many years he sponsored "the outstanding track and field athlete" award, loved taking students to the State track meet in Columbus, and was very happy to see the completion of the new Leipsic Community Track.

Survivors include daughters: Sue (David) Van Eman of Bluffton, Renee Rohdes of Bluffton; a son: Brad McDougle of Leipsic; seven grandchildren: Stephanie (Jared) Stewart, Scott (Lacy) Van Eman, Jonathan (Claudia) Rohdes, Maegan (Wes) Reece, Kristen (Tyler) Sebenoler, Jared (Haleigh) McDougle,  and Stacey (Leslie) McClure; and eight great-grandchildren: Ellie and Finley Stewart, Taya, Tate, and Eden Van Eman, Aubrey McClure, Jase McDougle, and Lydia Rohdes.

Harold was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Dilts, Doris McDougle, Donna McDougle, Golda Insley, Zelma Near, and Florence Rangel; and brothers, Charles, Clarence, Albert, Floyd, Ray, Robert, Lawrence and Kenneth McDougle.

The family would especially like to thank Karon Punches, caretaker and close friend, Joei Hoorman, L.M.T., and the staff at Maple Crest Assisted Living for their loving care.

A celebration of life service for Harold will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Rev. Wesley Reece officiating.  Burial will be in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion.  Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Leipsic Community Track in care of Larry Place.
