Helen L. Koester
OTTOVILLE – Helen L. Koester, 80, of Ottoville died at 2:24 a.m. Monday, October 08, 2012 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  She was born March 5, 1932 in Cloverdale to the late Michael and Pauline (Pittner) Burgei.  On June 14, 1952, she married Gerald B. "Dick" Koester. He died May 20, 1975.  Surviving are 2 children: Larry (Belinda) Koester of Sylvania, Kay (Dave) Beattie of Hilliard; 5 grandchildren: Abigail, Nikolaus and William Koester; Christine and Allison Beattie; 4 sisters: Agnes (Frank) King of Napoleon, Mildred (Bill) Pollick of Dublin, Miriam (Norm) Kamann of Oregon and Dorothy (Paul) Kahle of Kalida; 4 sisters-in-law: Mary Jane Burgei of Cloverdale, Dorothy Koester of Lima, Marita Koester of Burnsville, MN and Irene (Don) Friemoth of Van Wert.  She was preceded in death also by a granddaughter: Grace Katherine Koester; 3 sisters: Annette (Lee) Kromer, Margaret (Pat) Maas, Louise Burgei; 3 brothers: Hilary (Marie) Burgei, Paul (Rita) Burgei and Lawrence Burgei; inlaws: Victor (Mary Ann) Koester, Virgil Koester, Mildred Wannemacher, Al (Mary Jane) Koester, Jerome Koester, Eileen (Joe) Sanders, Clarence Koester and Roman Koester.
Helen retired after 34 years as Clerk-Treasurer of the Ottoville Schools.  She has also worked at Jack Howell Chevrolet in Ottawa.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and its Altar Rosary Society.  She was also a member of the VFW Post 3740 Ladies Auxiliary; an American Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer for over 45 years; Putnam County Election volunteer and parade organizer for the Ottoville Park Carnival for many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, October 12, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Fr. John Stites officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township (on the corner of Rts. 224 & 634).  There will be a scripture service at 2:00 pm Thursday and VFW Auxiliary service at 7:00 pm Thursday both at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or the VFW Auxiliary post 3740.
