Helen I. Nussbaum
Ottawa - Helen I. Nussbaum, 86, of Ottawa, died 3:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born September 27, 1928, in Ottawa to the late Fred and Veronica (Brinkman) Koch. On May 26, 1951, she married Richard Nussbaum who died June 9, 1964.
Helen is survived by 7 children: Greg (Sharon) Nussbaum of Ottawa, Jackie (Ralph) Kleman of Bowling Green, Linda (Ron) Roof of Franklin, TN, Dave Nussbaum of Defiance, Dorothy (Rob) Brown of Arlington, Theresa (Martin) Ellerbrock of Findlay and Rose (Mark) Niese of Ottawa; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; 2 brothers: Bill (Rita) Koch of Glandorf and Joe (Alice) Koch of Ottawa; 1 sister: Doris Horstman of Ft. Jennings; a sister-in-law: Julie Koch of Columbus Grove and a brother-in-law: Bob (Marilyn) Hamburg of Kalida. She is also preceded in death by siblings: Marie (Norbert) Schroeder, Ruth (Lee) Schroeder, Rich (Doris) Koch, Ed Koch, Clara (Paul) Nadler and Irene Hamburg; sister-in-law: Mary Koch; and brother-in-law: Don Horstman.
Helen worked as a teller at Ottawa Home and Savings and Ohio Bank; worked at the former Hawkeys Pharmacy; cooked at Sts. Peter and Paul School; worked at the Bombshelter Carry-out and also worked at Ottawa Feed and Grain. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and sung in the choir. She was a 1946 Glandorf High School graduate. She was a volunteer at Council on Aging, Putnam Acres and a Right to Life advocate; member of the Kitchen Band and an over all social and well loved community member. Her biggest, and most important job was raising 7 children. She was an avid prayer warrior helping many relatives and friends through prayer. Two of her hobbies included baking whole wheat bread and crocheting scrubbies to give to others.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 7, 2015, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, with Father Rick Friebel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service Sunday evening at 7:50 p.m.
