Helen J. Diemer

OTTAWA – Helen J. Diemer, 84, of Ottawa, died at 1:26 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Kettering Health, Troy. She was born on September 25, 1937 in Lima to the late Harry J. and Odelia (Warnecke) Meyer. On June 7, 1958, she married Eugene E. "Bert" Diemer, who preceded her in death on April 24, 2018.

Survivors include four children: Russ (Bec) Diemer of Ottawa, Mark (Ellen) Diemer of Pandora, Jean (Ron) Gerdeman of Ottawa and Lisa (Luke) Sargent of Troy; 11 grandchildren: Kacee and Brad Hillard, Andrea and Justin Ricker, Courtnee and Michael Valentin, Shelly and Corby Schroeder, Cody and Ashly Diemer, Sydney Gerdeman, Amy and Matt Larson, Taylor Gerdeman, Klaire Diemer, Mitchell Sargent and Graham Sargent; 5 great-grandchildren: Oakley Schroeder, Braxton Larson, Ellie Ricker, Kinslee Hillard, Tobey Schroeder and one on the way; and five sisters: Mary Florence Wischmeyer of Russells Point, Patricia Hohenbrink of Ottawa, Janice (Frank) Niece of Ottawa, Marlene (Gene) Looser of Farmington Hills, MI and Dianne Warnecke of Ottawa.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Doug Diemer; three brothers: Virgil (Alice) Meyer, Eugene (Delores) Meyer and George Meyer; two sisters: Dolores German and Ethel (Thomas) Walker; and brothers-in-law: Werner Wischmeyer, David Hohenbrink, and Leon Warnecke.

Helen retired as office manager from the Ottawa VFW.  She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, Ottawa Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Ottawa-Glandorf Athletic Boosters and Ottawa Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she was one of the longest members. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, quilting, cooking and baking.  She had a great love for her family and always said her grandkids were the best medicine.

Funeral mass will begin 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2022 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday and one hour prior to the mass Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with a scripture service at 7:50 p.m. Sunday.
