Helen A. Niese

LEIPSIC – Helen A. Niese, 93, of Leipsic, took her last breath while listening to the First Glorius Mystery of the Rosary, the Resurrection at 10:23 p.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at The Meadows of Leipsic, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 21, 1933, in Ottawa Township to the late Joseph and Loretta (Weis) Schmenk. On April 9, 1953, she married Eugene D. "Geno" Niese, who preceded her in death on December 3, 2019.

Survivors include her children: Barbara (Robert) Meyer of Oak Harbor, Sue (Punky) McDaniel of Leipsic, Michael (Kathryn) Niese of Ottawa, Catherine (John) Fortman of Ottawa, Steven (deceased) Deb Niese of Leipsic, Mark (Christine) Niese of Leipsic, Mary Jo (Joe) Bodart of Lexington, KY, Patty (Tom) Giesken of Ottawa, Julie (Bernie) Breece of Ottawa, Dale (Jodi) Niese of Leipsic, Dorothy (Terry) Lammers of Leipsic, Christine (Alex) Chapman of Orient and Roger (Georgette) Niese of Leipsic; 45 grandchildren and one deceased granddaughter, Emma Nieser; 67 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; 3 great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; siblings: Mary Ann (Eugene) Recker (both deceased), Herman (Rita) Schmenk of New Cleveland, Angela (Norman) Goedde of Leipsic, Alice (John) Recker of Ottawa and Joseph Schmenk of Venice, FL.

Helen graduated from Miller City High School in 1951 and attended St. Rita's School of Nursing. She was a homemaker and drove bus for Leipsic Local Schools for 13 years. Helen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic, where she was the past president of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a woman of great faith and an avid prayer warrior, who led the rosary at church often. She was a mother to all and loved baking and cooking for family. Family meant everything to Helen, she especially cherished her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going to casinos, playing cards and bingo.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. Stephen Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and again on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Life Center, Leipsic.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or School or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
