Helen May Shafer

CONTINENTAL – Helen May Shafer, 98, of Continental, died 10:30 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Meadows of Kalida.  She was born August 29, 1919 in Continental to the late Oliver and Osa (Woggermon) Tracy.  On June 4, 1936, she married Wilbur Shafer.  He died August 24, 1993.

Survivors include three sons: Ronald (Patsy) Shafer of Columbus Grove, Gary (Joyce) Shafer of Leipsic and Terry (Marlene) Shafer of Defiance; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; thirteen great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur P. Tracy; and four sisters: D. Louise Kimble, L. Viola Kellogg, M. Imogene Moore and Thelma L. Prehn.

Helen was a homemaker and later in life worked for eleven years as a waitress at L & K Restaurant, formerly of Ottawa.  She was a member of Dupont Church of the Brethren and enjoyed reading, sports and playing cards.  Helen loved and cherished each family member.  They were the highlight of her life and were very good to her.

Funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Dupont Church of the Brethren with Rev. Terry Porter officiating.   Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental.  Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Tuesday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental as well as one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
