Helen Marie Chandler
FORT JENNINGS – Helen Marie Chandler, 95, of Fort Jennings died at 4:13 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was born October 8, 1916 in Fort Jennings to the late George and Verena (Stegeman) Wallenhorst. On May 14, 1947 she married Earl L. Chandler who died November 25, 1991.
She is survived by a daughter: Nancy (Edward) Andrews of Fort Jennings; 3 grandchildren: Robert (Alesha) Andrews, Tara (Eric) Mackert, and Tammi (Chad) Van Bibber; 3 great-grandchildren: Hayden Andrews, Harper Andrews, and Kaylyn Mackert; and a sister-in-law: Sally Wallenhorst of Middle Point. Also preceding her in death were 4 sisters: Sr. Euphrasia Wallenhorst, Esther (Greg) Eggeman, Thelma (Art) Beckman, and Alice (Carl) Snyder; and 3 brothers: Gilbert Wallenhorst, Wilbur (Lucille) Wallenhorst, and Alfred (Anne) Wallenhorst.
Helen was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings and the Fort Jennings Ladies American Legion Auxiliary. She loved sewing, gardening and babysitting her grandchildren when they were little. Helen and her husband were in Fort Jennings's first graduating class in 1935.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings with Fr. Mel Verhoff officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township (corner of St. Rts. 634 & 224) and one hour prior to the mass at the church on Saturday. There will be a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. and a Ladies Auxiliary Service at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
