Iantha "Florence" Stauffer Foley
Iantha "Florence" Stauffer Foley, 103, passed away on August 31, 2015 in Mission, Texas. She was born August 16, 1912 on a farm south of Continental, Ohio, to Henry Shank Stauffer and Angie Ottella (Steiner) Stauffer. Preceding her in death were brothers Clarence, Chester, Dillon, Halley, Robert and Richard; sisters Anna, Edna and Ethel. She married Harold J. Foley November 30, 1940. He died May 18, 1985. Also preceding her in death were great-grandchildren Jacob and Kate Haughn, and Ian Saenz.
Surviving are children: Nancy (Jerry) Haughn, Julie (Gerardo) Saenz, and Reagan (Susan) Foley; grandchildren: Melinda (John) Hill, Jarrod (Laura) Haughn, Rebekah (Joel) Solis, Benjamin (DeAnna) Saenz, Jennifer (Michael) Arens and Eric Foley; and great-grandchildren: Rachel and James Hill, Ella Haughn, Diego and Adrian Solis, Mikaela, Christian, Allison, and Kenna Saenz, Dillon and Maggie Arens.
Florence graduated from Defiance College. She furthered her education working towards a Masters of Education in Library Science. Her teaching career began in small 2- room schools and ended many years later as the librarian in Leipsic Local Schools. During her latter years teaching at Leipsic, Florence earned "The Martha Jennings Scholar Award".
Always active in her church, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, served on boards and helped where needed. She was a member of the Chautauqua Club and McAllen Music Club. Florence loved music, singing, playing the piano, guitar, harmonica, and dulcimer. Her other joys had been ice skating, horseback riding, genealogy, travel, reading, and creative writing.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, at Leipsic United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Weatherly officiating. Interment will follow at Cascade Cemetery near Cloverdale. Friends may call Friday, September 11, from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME Leipsic and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
