Ilda "Fern" Koenig
NORTH CREEK - Ilda "Fern" Koenig, 92, of North Creek, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016 at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born December 24, 1923 in Greensburg Township to the late Bryon and Nellie (Taylor) Varner. On May 29, 1947 she married Elmer Koenig. He died March 29, 2012.
She is survived by four children: David (Diana) Koenig of Continental, Glen (Joan) Koenig of Miller City, Sandra (Eugene) Hasselschwert of New Bavaria, and Cliff Koenig of Miller City; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; a brother: Maynard Varner of Ottawa; and a half-brother: Clyde (Michele) Varner of Napoleon. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild; three brothers: Howard, Glenn, and William Varner; and three sisters: Marvol Gibson, Arnolda Miller, and Mina "Opal" Gyetvai.
Fern was a homemaker and helped with the farming. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City and St. Joseph's Rosary Altar Society. Fern enjoyed gardening, doing puzzles, reading, crocheting, and taking walks. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Fr. Stephen Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Creek. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday June 6, 2016 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a parish rosary at 1:45 p.m. Memorial may be made to the Putnam County Hospice.
