Irene C. Kaufman

OTTAWA – Irene C. Kaufman, 94, of Ottawa, died at 3:50 p.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born May 9, 1929, in Delphos to the late Frank and Evelyn (Rahrig) Grone.  On September 12, 1953, she married Virgil B. Kaufman in St. John's Catholic Church, Delphos.  He preceded her in death on October 28, 2009.

Irene is survived by four children: Ken (Peg) Kaufman of Pandora, Ron (Sher) Kaufman of Palm Desert, CA, Dr. Lynn (Dr. Scott) Schmidt of Philadelphia, PA and Dean (Joan) Kaufman of Rhinelander, WI; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Irvin (Mary) Grone of Delphos; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Grone of Delphos.

She was also preceded in death by her three siblings: Elmer Grone, George (Octavia) Grone and John Grone.

After high school, Irene worked for Monogram Name Plate in Spencerville until she married and started a family. Years later she worked part-time at Triple K Party Shop, where she and her husband were part-owners. Irene was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf and its C. L. of C. Irene was always on the go, never wanting to just sit around. She spent six months a year in California for 29 years playing golf, shuffleboard, cards and riding her bike until she was 90 years old. She loved playing cards with her grandchildren and spending time with her great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Father Matt Keller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday one hour prior to mass at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.

The family requests no flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam County Council on Aging.
