Irvin D. "Chick" Tumblin

CONTINENTAL -- Irvin D. "Chick" Tumblin, 83, of Continental, died  1:07 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at St. Rita's Medical Center.  He was born March 14, 1933 in Paulding County to the late Jesse and Golda (Stewart) Tumblin.  On October 5, 1957 he married Irma Boggs, who preceded him in death on September 11, 1988.  On May 12, 1990 he married Anna Marie Slattman, who survives.

He is also survived by his 3 children:  Irvin (Gloria) Tumblin of Grover Hill, Art (Betty) Tumblin of Cloverdale and Beulah (Mike) Prowant of Cloverdale; 5 step-children:  Michael (Teresa) Varner of Continental, Darryl (Kim) Varner of Continental, Randall (Amy) Varner of Bowling Green, James (Jenni) Varner of Oakwood and Cindy (Steve) Giesige of New Bavaria; 11 grandchildren; 18 step grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 18 step great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are 2 brothers:  Justus and Owen Tumblin; 1 sister:  Mary Lou Tumblin; and a step-son:  Dean Varner.

Chick retired from Philips, Ottawa where he had been a welder.  He was an Army veteran of the  Korean Conflict.  He loved to hunt, fish and bowl.  He was a life member of both the Continental American Legion and the Leipsic AMVETS.  He was also a member of New Bavaria VFW, the Cloverdale Game Club and the Eagles Lodge in both Defiance and Ottawa.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. James Fry officiating.  Burial will follow in Middle Creek Cemetery, Grover Hill where military funeral rites will be by Continental American Legion.  Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
