James E. Broecker

FORT JENNINGS – James E. Broecker, 81, of Fort Jennings, passed away at 11:07 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima. He was born July 4, 1945, in Fort Jennings to the late Henry and Lauretta (Ellerbrock) Broecker. On April 27, 1968, he married Jeanette Gerschutz, who preceded him in death on January 6, 2022.

Survivors include four daughters: Paula (Joe) Kobalka of Westerville, Shelly (Pat) Pruden of Middle Point, Shawn Heiing of Delphos and Sheri (Brad) Pugh of Pandora; eight grandchildren: Crystal (Aaron), Joe (Ashley), Ariel, Brice, Rylee, Dylan, Bryan, and Tyler; four great-grandchildren: Cailey, Brayden, Dillon, and Brendan; and two siblings: Betty (Rich) Miller of Ottoville and Paul (Jo) Broecker of Fort Jennings; and a sister-in-law, Alice Broecker of Fort Jennings

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by five siblings: Don (Rose) Broecker, Louis (Celeste) Broecker, Ruth (Nub) Grote, Charlie Broecker, Roger Broecker and Catherine (Gene) McGraw.

James worked for Weatherseal, Ottawa for 38 years and retired from Eaton, Van Wert. He also delivered Meals on Wheels for Lock 16, Ottoville. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings, the Sons of the American Legion #715, Fort Jennings, Delphos Eagles and former board member of Fort Jennings Telephone Company. He enjoyed cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals. James loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2026, at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township with Deacon Larry Schimmoeller officiating. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fort Jennings. Visitation will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. To honor Jim, the family requests that you wear your favorite Ohio State Buckeyes or Cincinnati Bengals attire.
