James William Grigsby

COLUMBUS GROVE – James William Grigsby, 88, of Columbus Grove (formerly of Elida), died at 2:30 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2025, at Vancrest of Delphos. He was born December 16, 1936, in Lima to the late James Francis and Ora Bernice (Bowsher) Grigsby. On December 17, 1955, he married Carole Ann Hedges, who preceded him in death on July 12, 2012.

He is survived by four children: Nannette Reintges of Hedgesville, WV, Darlene Grigsby of Columbus Grove, Karen (Victor Huelskamp) Grigsby of Botkins and Mike (Chris) Grigsby of Columbus Grove; seven grandchildren: Tim, Eric, James, Jesse, Amanda, Brandon and Hannah; eighteen great-grandchildren: Justin, Haley, Emily, Noah, Ian, Collin, Grady, Korey, Landon, Cheyanne, Olivia, Dylan, Amie, Alena, Raelynn, Alyssa, Kane, Brooks and two on the way; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Wheeler.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bill Wheeler.

James was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during Vietnam. He was a member of the USS Kitty Hawk Veterans Association, Lima Eagles 370 and American Legion Post #516, where he served on the Honor/Color Guard. He enjoyed racing, fishing, hunting, cruising around, and getting into trouble being ornery.  James will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at St. John's Catholic Church, 777 S. Main St., Lima, Ohio with Fr. David Ross officiating. Funeral mass will be livestreamed at www.stjohnlima.com (scroll down to live stream mass at the bottom and click to view). Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, 2001 Spencerville Rd., Lima, Ohio with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the Mass at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
