James T. "Jim" McCrate

PANDORA - James T. "Jim" McCrate, 76, of Pandora, died at 1:12 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at his residence surrounded by family.  He was born July 3, 1945 in Columbus Grove to the late Lane and Jessie (Maidlow) McCrate. On December 19, 1964, he married Pearl McMonigal and she survives in Pandora.

Other survivors include three children:  Laura (Darrin) Schroeder of Leipsic, Carolyn (Todd) Tienarend of Bloomdale and Jim (Deanna) McCrate, Jr. of Linden, MI; ten grandchildren;  two great-grandchildren; and one brother: Dennis (Marie) McCrate of Barnsville.

He is also preceded in death by two siblings:  William McCrate and Kathleen McCrate-Beckman.

Jim retired in 2000 from Phillips in Ottawa and was a member of its Quarter-Century Club. He was also a lifetime member of Leipsic Rod and Gun. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and gardening. Jim loved to play pool and spent his retirement years as a semi-pro billiards player. He was also an avid cyclist and rode with Hancock Handlebars.  When he was no longer able to pursue those interests, he took up bird watching and painting.  Jim died at home with his loving wife of 56 years taking care of him.

Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2021 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with Pastor Geoff Eubank officiating.  Burial will follow at the Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic.  Visitation will be Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. and again on Friday one hour prior to the service at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
