James Richard "Jim" Stowe
OTTAWA - James Richard "Jim" Stowe, 89, of Ottawa died at 11:42 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at The Meadows of Putnam Acres, Ottawa. He was born in Morley, MO on December 7, 1923 to Jesse Myron and Minnie Lucille (Atherton) Stowe, both deceased. He had one sister, Mary Frances Stowe, who preceded him in death on March 3rd of this year. On November 21, 1947 he married Betty Jean Clauser of Fredericktown, MO, who preceded him in death on July 7, 2008. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Paul Stowe.
He is survived by 2 sons, Sam (Joyce) Stowe of Worthington and Bruce Stowe of Ottawa; a daughter, Mary (Bobby Joyner) Stowe of Columbus; 2 grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) Stowe and Andrew Stowe.
Jim was an Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War and was part of the D-Day Invasion, Battle of the Bulge, and the Liberation of Paris. In 1953 he received his electrical engineering degree from the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, MO and started with Sylvania in Ottawa and retired in 1986 from Philips. Jim was active in Boy Scout Troop 224 in the 1950's and 60's. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa and the Ottawa American Legion Post 63. He loved to travel and he and Betty went to most of the 50 states. He traveled to many parts of the world with Sylvania / Philips and holds 2 patents for the TV tube. They along with their son, Bruce traveled together their last few years until 2004. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling.  A Celebration of Life Service will begin 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa with Rev. Lynda Lockwood officiating. Military rites will be held at the church after the service. Burial will be at Harman Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers and gifts the family asks that monetary gifts be given in Jim's memory to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ottawa where he was a member for nearly 60 years.
