James H. Pierman
OTTAWA - James Henry Pierman, 92, of Ottawa, died 12:58 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Meadows of Ottawa. He was born on January 2, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Clifford L. and Florence E. (Stuber) Pierman. On June 6, 1947 he married Ellin J. Frey and she survives in Ottawa.
Also surviving are three daughters: Carol J. (Sharon O'Dair) Pierman of Berkeley, California, Shelley K. (Steven Pickering) Pierman of La Center, Washington and Jamie A. Pierman of Ottawa.
Jim was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Suzanne Pierman.
Jim attended Crawfis College and graduated from Blanchard Township High School. He attended Bowling Green State University and Union College in Jackson, Tennessee.
Jim was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps as an Air Corps Cadet. He was a 70-year member of the American Legion. Jim was a retired farmer and a retired sales manager for Cargill.
Jim served on the Pandora-Gilboa School Board of Education for 12 years, four of those years as President. He was the fiscal officer for Blanchard Township for 28 years. Jim was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Putnam County Council on Aging. Jim was a member of the Ottawa Senior Citizens Center and was a longtime member of the Friends of the Putnam County District Library.
Jim was a longtime member of the Ottawa Presbyterian Church, serving as the church's organist for 20 years. He also served as a church Elder, Trustee and was a member of the church choir.
Jim raised Standard bred trotters and enjoyed horses and horse racing his entire life. He was an enthusiastic BGSU Falcon fan. Jim enjoyed music, especially jazz, golf, travel and being with family and friends.
Burial will be private. A public memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Ottawa Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Patrick Harley officiating.. The family will greet friends and family beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Putnam County District Library, 136 Putnam Parkway, Ottawa, Ohio 45875, or Putnam County Homecare and Hospice, 575 OG Road, Suite #3, Ottawa, Ohio 45875.
