James H. Tyler

DEFIANCE – James H. Tyler, 71, of Defiance, passed away at 6:51 a.m., Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born December 27, 1951, in Defiance to the late John and Betty (Johnson) Tyler. On August 1, 1970, he married Vicki Searfoss, who survives in Defiance.

Other survivors include two children: James A. (Lori) Tyler of Defiance and Brent (Marabeth) Tyler of Defiance; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and two siblings: John (Theresa) Tyler of Defiance and JoAnn Guelde of Continental.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carissa Tyler; and a sister, Jane Ruggles.

James retired from GM Powertrain, Defiance. When he was younger, he earned his black belt in karate. James loved retirement as he enjoyed fishing, traveling, woodworking, casino trips, and above all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Pastor Charles Schmunk officiating. Visitation will be held 2 – 8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
