James David “Jim” Young

BELMORE – James David “Jim” Young, 69, of Belmore, passed away peacefully Sunday night, August 2, 2026, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. He won the battle with cancer with a victory in Heaven. He was born September 22, 1956, in Defiance to the late William S. and Elaine F. (Boyd) Young. On July 2, 2011, he married his best friend and love of his life, Jenna Uehlein, who survives in Belmore.

Other survivors include eight children: Jason Meyer of NY, Ministy Holifield of FL, Lindsay (Michael) Maffeo of NC, Brittany (Jarrid) Cervantes of Leipsic, Anthony (Ariel) Young of Toledo, Tracee (Steven Hill) Dear of North Baltimore, Teresa (Jeremy) Harnishfeger of Columbus Grove and Terrence Dear of Columbus; 16 grandchildren; his oldest brother, Gene Young of Defiance; brother-in-law, Jim Frank of West Unity; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his twin sister, Veria L. (Young) Frank, a stillborn infant sister; and sister-in-law, Judy Young.

Jim was a veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War in the fall of Saigon and was awarded the purple heart. He retired from Consolidated Biscuit Co, McComb, where he worked as a machine operator for 20 years. Jim loved spending time with his family, friends & pets (his Great Danes and kitties). He enjoyed restoring classic cars, spending time outside, bringing joy to people’s lives and being a social butterfly. He lived a very diverse & full life including serving as mayor, fire chief, councilman, electrician, lineman and coal miner among others. He was very devoted to his family & loved them with his whole heart. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

A funeral service for Jim will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2026, at LOVE-HIETMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Walter Harper officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The family requests casual dress for the visitation and funeral.
