Janet L. Schroeder

OTTAWA – Janet L. Schroeder, 83, of Ottawa, passed away 7:18 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.  She was born July 3, 1939 in Hamler to the late Florian and Emma (Dunzer) Schortgen.  On April 12, 1958, she married John A. Schroeder, who preceded her in death on November 30, 2021.

Survivors include three children: Denise Balbaugh of Ottawa, Donna (Gary) Wyland-Grillo of Powell and Duwayne (Linda) Schroeder of Spencerville, IN; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Mike) Bogardus, Jared Balbaugh, Justine (Kyle) Warnimont, Laina (Josh) Klingler, Lauren Atha Skinner, Katie Schroeder and Johnathon Schroeder; eight great-grandchildren: Bethany Balbaugh, Billy Bogardus, Zoey Bogardus, Charlotte Bogardus, Colt Warnimont, Weston Warnimont, Shelby Warnimont and Bentley Skinner; a brother: Donald (Shirley) Schortgen of MO; and three sisters-in-law: Marilyn Schortgen and Sandy Schortgen both of Hamler and Carol Schortgen of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by a son, Doug Schroeder; a grandson, Justin Balbaugh; four brothers: Charles (Rosemary) Schortgen, Kenneth Schortgen, James Schortgen and Jerome "Jerry" Schortgen; and a sister, Mary Kathleen (Melvin) Barlage.

Janet retired from the Putnam County Educational Service, Ottawa where she worked as a secretary. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. Janet enjoyed traveling and was able to visit 49 out of the 50 states with her husband.

Funeral mass will begin 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2022 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Father Scott Kramer officiating.  Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, New Cleveland.  Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a scripture service at 7:50 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
