Janice Cecelia (Meyer) Niese
OTTAWA – Janice Cecelia (Meyer) Niese, 90, of Ottawa, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born November 1, 1935, in Lima to the late Harry and Odelia (Warnecke) Meyer. On October 27, 1954, she married Franklin Joseph Niese, who survives in Ottawa. They recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Other survivors include five children: Frank Jr. (Sandra) Niese of Jenera, Joelyn (Greg) Etgen of Delphos, Charles (Tammy) Niese of Pandora, Jane (Dean) Rosengarten of Leipsic and Rob (Cindy) Niese of Leipsic; twenty grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren with one on the way; and two sisters: Diane (Leon) Warnecke of Ottawa and Marlene (Gene) Looser of Farmington Hills, MI.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Mary Jo Niese; a granddaughter, Marissa Niese; three brothers: Virgil (Alice) Meyer, Gene (Delores) Meyer and George Meyer; and five sisters: Mary Florence (Werner) Wischmeyer, Ethel (Thomas) Walker, Dolores German, Patricia (Dave) Hohenbrink and Helen (Burt) Diemer.
Janice was a homemaker. She also farmed with her husband and later drove school bus for 20 years. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and previous member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic, its C. L. of C and Altar Rosary Society. Janice also worked in the parish office for a short time. She attended the Sisters of the Precious Blood in Dayton, was a board member on the Community Action Commission of HHWP and a board member of the Hawaiian Sun Holidays Homeowners Association for ten years.
Janice enjoyed sports, playing cards, crocheting and her winter home in the Texas Valley. She and her husband, Franklin, traveled extensively to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico and the Continental United States. Janice was most proud of her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family, who always brought joy and a big smile to her face.
Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday with a scripture service beginning at 7:50 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
Memorial donations may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and School, St. Mary's Catholic Church and School or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
