Janice Marie VonderEmbse

KALIDA – Janice M. VonderEmbse, 83, of Kalida, passed away on December 25, 2025, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was born July 23, 1942, in Lima to the late John and Philomena (Verhoff) Stoepfel, Sr. On July 8, 1961, she married Ronald L. VonderEmbse, he preceded her in death on March 7, 2022.

Janice is survived by three children: Gary (Mary Jo) VonderEmbse, Lois (Melvin) Horstman, and Diane (Nick) Langhals; grandchildren: Brad VonderEmbse, Amy (Nick) Zychowicz, Holly (Eric) Schnipke, Cody (Ericka) Horstman, Luke (Kylie) Langhals, Lauren (Grant) Csukker, and Logan Langhals; eight great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

She is preceded in death by a brother, John Stoepfel, Jr.

Janice was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and the Altar Rosary Society. She retired from Stoepfel Drilling Company in 2007. She had great love for her children and grandchildren, family and friends. Janice enjoyed traveling, dining out with family and friends, shopping, reading and a great glass of Red Meomi. She loved the winters in Florida and her many years of golf. Janice was a great caretaker for her brother, mother and husband.

Funeral mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. on Monday at LOVE HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael’s Building Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
