Jerry A. Potts
CONTINENTAL – Jerry A. Potts, 80, of Continental, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born June 8, 1932 in Continental to the late Charles Ivan and Blanche Garnet (Dickens) Potts. On June 24, 1994, he married Karen A. Castle and she survives in Continental. Preceding him in death were two spouses, Josephine Baysden and Diane Neeper.
Surviving are 7 children: Wanda Jo Wallace of Colorado Springs, CO, Pamela Faye (Paul) Jacot of Richmond, IN, Joyce Lynn (Steve) Carson of Shreve, Linda Kay (Bill) Albert of Shreve, Carol Lee Kaser of Palm Coast, FL, Bruce Austin Potts of San Diego, CA and Bradley Allen Potts of San Diego, CA; 2 step-sons: Michael Nelson of SC and Terry Carroll (Roberta Gafford) Nelson of Bakersfield, CA; 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law: Bobby (Susan) Castle of Defiance. He was preceded in death also by a sister: Janice Timbers.
In the late 1950's and early 1960's, Jerry served as Continental's town marshal and worked at Philips in Ottawa, S.K. Wayne and ran a radio repair shop out of his home. During that time he was also a volunteer fireman and rural postman. He then moved to Dayton and worked at M & M before relocating to San Diego. There he retired as an electrician from General Dynamics. Upon retiring, he returned to Continental.
Jerry was an Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Continental United Methodist Church, 32nd Degree Free and Accepted Mason of Ohio, Continental Lodge, Eastern Star Chapter 129 of Continental, Continental American Legion and Ottawa VFW. He was a former scoutmaster and enjoyed traveling, golf and was a ham radio operator. Jerry loved spending time with his family and 2 dogs BJ and Benji and 2 cats Gracie and Morris.
A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Charles Schmunk officiating and military rites by Continental American Legion, Ottawa VFW and Ottawa American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to service Thursday at the funeral home where there will be a VFW service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
