Joan Alma (Braun) Turnwald

OTTOVILLE – Joan Alma (Braun) Turnwald, 90, of Ottoville, passed away at 9:25 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2024, at The Meadows of Ottawa surrounded by her loving family after battling dementia for many years. She was born September 29, 1933, in St. Mary's to the late Henry and Elizabeth (Knapke) Braun.  On July 13, 1957, she married Arthur Eugene Turnwald, who survives in Ottoville.

Other survivors include four children: Beth (Timothy) Eickholt, Sue (Dale) Martin, Barb (Steve) Etgen and Jeff (Marie) Turnwald all of Ottoville; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a special friend, Mary Alice Niese of Miller City.

She was also preceded in death by seven siblings: Sr. Sarah Braun, Sr. Alma Braun, Dorothy Bettinger, Cletus Braun, Sr. Joan Braun, Freida Kuhn and Irene Frey.

Joan worked as an office clerk at S & S Products, Lima prior to marriage. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and its Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed camping, scrapbooking, gardening, playing cards and had a special devotion to Mary. Joan loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass will begin 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with the Very Reverend George Mahas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
