Joan I. Kuhlman

OTTAWA - Joan I. Kuhlman, 84, of Ottawa died peacefully at her home with her loving family surrounding her at 10:02 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2018. She was born March 2, 1934 in Kalida to the late Louis and Mollie (Meyer) Osterhage. On November 24, 1956 she married the love of her life and best friend of 61 years, Jerry Kuhlman. Theirs was a true love story. Jerry survives in Ottawa.

Also surviving are three sons, Jeff Kuhlman of Columbus, Roger Kuhlman and Brian (Jill) Kuhlman both of Ottawa; two daughters, Janet (Richard) Heres of New Hampshire and Karen (Michael) Ellerbrock of Ottawa; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mildred Remlinger, Cecelia Gerdeman, Marie (Joe) Langhals all of Kalida, Ruth Ann (David) Manley of Hinkley and Rita (Roy) Morman of Glandorf; and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Osterhage of Columbus Grove and Dorothy Osterhage of Glandorf.

Joan was also preceded in death by her son, Greg Kuhlman, USMC; six brothers, Bob (Joan), Wilfred, Alfred, Eugene, Paul Osterhage and Rev. Louis Osterhage; two sisters, Rose Arlene (Joe) Kistler and Julianna (Dave) Hamilton; and two brothers-in-law, Wilbur Remlinger and Donald Gerdeman.

Joan retired after 30 years working as an accountant for Philips formerly of Ottawa. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. She was a loving mother and wife who had a gift of contagious laughter that lit up every room. She spent six months of the year with her Bartow Florida family playing golf and enjoying life. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching them play their sports, and seeing them succeed in life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, from 8:30 a.m. until the departure for mass at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.

Memorials may be made to the Putnam County Hospice.
