John W. Cunningham OTTAWA – John W. Cunningham, 83, of Ottawa, passed away at 6:47 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1941, in Paulding to the late Charles and Mary (Stauffer) Cunningham. On June 19, 1964, he married Merrily Ann Butler, who preceded him in death on February 14, 2003. John is survived by three children: Brian (Carrie) Cunningham of Morrow, Julie (Dave) Bruns of Miamisburg and Jodi (Bob) Halker of Columbus Grove; and seven grandchildren: Max Cunningham, Maggie Cunningham, Paige Bruns, Sydney Bruns, Payton Halker, Shep Halker and Emerson Halker. John graduated High School from Oakwood and attended Defiance College, BGSU and The University of Dayton.  He was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard. He retired as Principal for Ottawa-Glandorf High School and had previously worked as the Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, Industrial Arts and Driver's Ed Teacher. He also formerly coached OG football, basketball and track. John was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Ottawa American Legion and Ottawa Eagles. John was a huge fan of the OG Titans, Legion Baseball, OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians, Columbus Grove Bulldogs, Miamisburg Vikings, Kings High School Knights and anything NASCAR. He owned a harness racing horse and enjoyed golf and good music. John loved spending time with his friends and family. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Ottawa American Legion. Arrangements are under the direction of HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
